In a world flooded with fast content, trustworthy storytelling has become one of the most valuable tools for change. To make better decisions - as people and as societies - we need depth, clarity, and context. That belief drives De Correspondent, one of the world’s leading member-funded journalism platforms.
Known for its in-depth reporting and thoughtful tone, De Correspondent offers an antidote to the daily news cycle. To expand its reach beyond screens and deepen engagement with readers, the organization built its own publishing house. Here long-form thinking takes a physical form and reaches new audiences. These books tackle the issues that define our time: from moral ambition and democracy to poverty, climate, and complex topics such as child abuse.

How we solved it: A Publishing System For Scaling Ideas
Momkai designed a scalable publishing system that transformed De Correspondent’s belief in informed storytelling into a recognizable, trusted label for ideas. Working closely with the publishing team, we translated their values into a design logic that could grow with every release.
Built on the foundations of De Correspondent’s identity, the system ensures unity across all titles. Each cover is crafted with the author to visualize complex ideas through metaphor, while the shared grid, typography, and color rhythm connect every book under one voice. The result: a publishing system that lets editors launch new titles effortlessly — and helps readers and bookstores instantly recognize and trust new, often challenging perspectives.

Proof of impact: A Steady Stream of Bestsellers
The system has fueled a steady stream of bestsellers— national and international — with works like Rutger Bregman’s Humankind and Moral Ambition leading the way, selling millions of copies worldwide. Rights of multiple books have been sold across multiple languages, and new books continue to launch nearly every quarter, extending De Correspondent’s reach far beyond the newsroom.

Result: Influencing the public debate one book at a time
Today, De Correspondent’s publishing house stands as a hallmark of trust and depth. Its unified design language signals credibility in a noisy media landscape and empowers lesser-known voices with urgent matters to leverage that same trust.
The result is a steady stream of books that influence the public debate and local policy. Sander Schimmelpenninck’s Sander en de brug was handed to the Dutch State minister of Finance Sigrid Kaag with five proposals for a fairer Netherlands. Lynn Berger’s Ik werk al (ik krijg er alleen niet voor betaald) sparked national conversations about unpaid work and Karim Amghar’s Maar dat begrijp jij toch niet was cited in the European Parliament on the day it was published.
